Jeff Larson, LCSW
Primary Therapist
With over 15 years of experience as a therapist for youth and young adults, Jeff has gained a strong reputation as a quality therapist in a referral driven industry. He completed internships as a therapist for Valley Mental Health’s Adolescent Day Care Unit and Wasatch Youth Support Systems. He worked as a co-therapist for Second Nature Wilderness Program prior to taking a full time position at Wasatch Youth Support Systems as the Program Manager for the Intensive Outpatient Program. During that time, Jeff also worked as a contract therapist with Life Matters Counseling and as a Substance Abuse and Mental Health evaluator for court referred youth. Following his transition from Youth Support Systems, Jeff then served as the Department Head of Social Services for Avalon Health Care, Inc. After a successful year in health care he returned to his passion by taking a job at Vista Counseling Services, Vista’s young adult transitional program, where he served as Clinical Director, as well as a primary therapist, for a couple years before directing his practice to adolescent boys at Vista Magna. In the wake of this shift, Jeff realized where he truly wished to operate and was inspired to return to working with young adults,
Jeff has as impressive track record of success working with the young adult and teenage population. He focuses heavily on the therapeutic alliance, evidenced by the relationships he’s maintained over time with his clients and their families. His therapeutic expertise and versatility extend beyond the traditional office meeting; he is familiar with local colleges and guidance staff, and collaborates regularly with academic professionals, DRC support staff, and employment organizations. He is excellent at helping his “kids” (clients) push through the obstacles hindering forward progression and uses his extensive experience with providing family therapy to guide students and families in need of intervention. He is well versed in the multitude of issues facing today’s young adult populations including substance abuse, behavioral problems, mood and anxiety disorders, self-esteem issues, trauma and abuse, personality disorders, family discord, bereavement, and identity issues. Jeff’s uncanny ability to establish rapport with even the most difficult of young adults allows him to connect with many clients that have cycled through many other therapists prior to working with him
Jeff enjoys running, playing basketball, snowboarding, camping, and spending time with his three daughters. He has supervised graduate students for the University of Utah for the past 11 years.
